Equipment

  • blender

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup baby spinach leaves
  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 small ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon almond or peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds or chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup raw walnuts or almonds
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or other non-dairy milk
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup optional, for added sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Rinse the spinach and blueberries thoroughly if you’re using fresh ones. If you’re using frozen blueberries, you can skip this step.
  • Peel the avocado and remove the pit. Cut it into smaller chunks.
  • In a blender, combine the blueberries, spinach, avocado, banana, nut butter, flaxseeds or chia seeds, walnuts or almonds, almond milk, honey or maple syrup (if using), cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  • Blend the ingredients on high speed until smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, you can add a bit more almond milk to achieve your desired consistency.
  • If you’re using fresh blueberries, add a few ice cubes to the blender and blend again until smooth and cold.
  • Pour the smoothie into a glass and enjoy immediately. You can also store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, but it’s best to consume it fresh for maximum nutritional benefits.

Notes

You can definitely use regular milk instead of almond milk or other non-dairy milk in the brain-boosting smoothie recipe. The substitution won’t have a significant impact on the overall taste or nutritional benefits of the smoothie. Simply replace the non-dairy milk with an equal amount of regular milk, and blend as instructed.
